As the wonderful year of 2015 comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to pause and look back on the things we have accomplished and shared on this blog. We are getting eerily close to our 1 year blogging anniversary and we are so excited about things to come! It is crazy how much we have transformed the look and feel of the blog and shifted our focus over time. If you’ve been around from the beginning you will know what we mean when we say we’ve come a long way (here’s a few screenshots for those of you who don’t remember)
Over time, we switched themes, styles, colors, fonts, branding everything. There’s no doubt in our mind that though these things will continue to change and evolve over time, we have finally found our footing and really like what we have created. We took the time to figure out our TOP 10 most viewed posts from the year and we weren’t too shocked with the results. We love writing about life, advice and food but we know why you always come back for more: D.I.Y. Those three letters not only define what we as people love, they *literally* are our blog, our name is DIY Just Cuz. We DIY just cuz we love it, just cuz it’s cheaper, just cuz we are cousins and that is how we communicate. Through creativity. Without further adieu, here are our Top 10 posts of 2015 (make sure to stick around to the bottom to hear all about our exciting plans for 2016) – starting from #10 all the way up to the most viewed post.
Top 10 Posts of 2015
In this post, Brittany shows step by step how to create your own adorable “I’m Just Here for the Boo’s” shirt – a perfect pun for Halloween! The trickiest thing in this project was getting the text to follow the head of the ghost but there’s a secret tip to make it oh so easy.
Have you seen those adorable Birthday Chalkboards with all the info about your smiling little one? Ever wanted to make your own permanent version? This tutorial shows exactly how to design one and use your Silhouette & vinyl to create the most gorgeous faux birthday chalkboard on the block!
String art is so popular not only because it’s too cute but it’s so easy to do! In this post, Brittany taught us exactly how to create a simple elephant string art pattern and add extra detail with our favorites: glitter & Mod Podge! The result was stunning.
This was likely one of the most thoughtful DIY’s we created this past year. Brittany learned a new skill (wood burning) in honor of a loved one. She created a wood burned tribute plaque to remember her using that technique. Learn how to make your own and hear the story of the lovely Yvonne Lynn Harber.
This post by Sarah was not only a huge hit here on our blog but on the website, Hometalk, as well. Her simple to follow instructions showed exactly how she updated her dirty looking grout into something modern and clean.
Another popular post on Hometalk, Sarah detailed the simple way she removes water stains and other ickiness from her microfiber couch. The best thing is all of the tools she used are easy to come by and the difference is remarkable!
One of our first tutorials to really take off on Pinterest and other social media was Brittany’s adorable DIY onesies tutorial. She took us step by step in the process of creating cute little onesies for her favorite kids in life using HTV and her handy Silhouette. This was also her first project for the Silhouette Challenge and it was so fun!
We loved creating Ultimate Guides (and we will definitely be continuing to do so next year) and one of our most viewed was Brittany’s Ultimate Guide to pegboards! Not only did she round up the best of the best in nearly every category (for kitchens, for laundry rooms, for craft rooms) she also displayed her own! This Ultimate Guide was a hit!
One of our most pleasantly surprising post successes was Sarah’s Homemade Makeup Remover Wipes. With only a few simple ingredients, Sarah created makeup remover wipes that can be made in large batches and save you tons of money. Plus, since you know every ingredient put into them, you never have to wonder what crazy chemicals you’re putting on your face.
Hands down our top post this year was Sam’s Baby Shower. Now only were the colors and theme adorable, it was all done on a budget of $100! When a brand new baby is coming soon, the last thing you need to spend money on is an elaborate party (babies are expensive). With tons of DIY ideas and a Smart Party Planning Printable it’s easy to see why this post ranked #1!
