Hello, hello! My name is Samantha and I am pleased to welcome you to a page that’s all about me, thanks for stopping by. It goes without saying that I love to write and blog, but there are quite a few things you may not know about me! First things first, sure my name is Samantha, but I prefer to go by Sam! Don’t worry though, if you call me any rendition of the name Samantha I’ll surely answer but call me Sam and my heart is yours. I have just always preferred it, for some reason the name just suits me. So, I am Sam. Sam I am.
Who Is Sam?
1992 was a really great year for me…it was the year I was born into this magical world! I was born and raised in sunny California with my huge family of eight (mom, dad and six children). I am the oldest and my youngest sibling is seventeen years younger than me, so quite the age gap. Growing up with such a big family in a small home, my siblings and I were always together being creative and adventurous! There were countless arts and crafts projects, mini dance parties and culinary “experiments”. As the oldest, I was typically the ringleader of these activities, we always had a blast and I adore my family to pieces. Even as a young girl my favorite thing to do was make gifts for my family, and I still do that to this day. I feel like the best way to show them my love is to make something special for them with my hands (so you will likely see quite a few of these handmade gifts all over our blog).
My cousins are also a part of my family – of course! It’s weird though, even though we are “family”, I really feel like they are my best friends. Even though we are always so far apart from one another, we make our friendship a priority. I love our trips to see each other!
Kind of a Strange One.
I’ve been a quirky individual since I was a child, just ask my cousins. I am the one dancing crazy at a birthday party, singing insane karaoke or telling silly jokes! I’m not sure where I got that part of my personality from exactly, but my mood is directly impacted by the moods of those around me so if I can get people upbeat and happy, I will do it. I mostly accomplish this by just acting strange and weird. But I am not apologizing for being myself, especially because my lovely other half, Gilbert, is exactly the same way.
Gilbert and I are two peas in a pod! We are both complete goofballs and our relationship was born on and has survived on laughter. Back in 2007 we met as friends in high school, then quickly became really really good friends (we had a secret handshake and everything)! He was two years older than me, a Senior and I was a Sophomore. Sooner than we knew it, our friendship turned into something much more (when I sent him an adorable comic note basically telling him I kinda, sorta, TOTALLY liked him). Much to my surprise and delight, he too felt the same way and we became boyfriend and girlfriend! Not only had I never had a boyfriend, I’d never even been kissed, so he was my first! He made high school an absolute dream for me and I could not be happier to have met him (obviously!).
Flash forward years later, he joins the Marine Corps, I go to college…we have a long distance relationship for over 6 years. It was absolutely horrible at times being apart from him but we made it work. In fact, I think it made our relationship stronger than ever. We’d spend Summers together and breaks from school but the visits were scattered and always felt way too short. We made it through a deployment and that’s when he knew he wanted to pop the question so shortly after returning, we were engaged in March 2011 (at Disneyland)!
Then came the wedding plans (on top of college, jobs, and finals) and in December 2012 I married the man of my dreams. I will never, ever forget that day it was certainly one of the highlights of my life. Brittany and Sarah actually made it to the Wedding all the way from Michigan which was awesome (because I love them so much!) and we decided to spend our Honeymoon in Michigan going skiing and seeing the beautiful January snow. My husband comes up a lot in the things I write about and the projects that I do. He’s a great motivator, a great person and a huge inspiration for me. I love him so much, I am willing to travel all around the world so he can pursue his career in the USMC (but don’t think I’m letting myself and my dreams get left in the dust!).
As I mentioned, I graduated from college! In 2014 I graduated with a B.S. in General Engineering from a fantastic college in California. I struggled a ton while I was there so finally graduating was a huge accomplishment for me. Of course I was really excited about also finally getting the chance to live with my husband! I now am pursuing my Masters in Biomedical Engineering and am expecting to graduate in a couple years. Moving around is hard for a career, but I have made the best of my experiences but trying new things and building up my personal resume. I am a hard worker and I really enjoy all the changes!
The light of my life.
When I got married, I really thought that was the greatest day of my life. I realize now that as amazing as that was, there was an even more monumentous day we would share together. June 1, 2015 our daughter, Addison Jane was born. As I am writing this she is only three weeks old but we already love her to pieces. There will be plenty of DIY’s and posts written about her I am sure. Even Brittany and Sarah can’t get enough of her! I look forward to the day we can all come together with our children (and hamsters too) and have a big play date!
